    Description

Description: Gunthermann Working Great BilliardChampion Pool Player Toy Tin Lithograph Clockwork
    Mechanism + 4Balls
For sale is a working Pool or Billiards Table and Player Litho Tin Toy with a clockwork mechanism and 4 steel balls manufactured by the Siegfried Gunthermann Toy Company in Nuremberg, Germany around 1920.
This Tin Pool Table does work as can be observed in the second and third attached pictures. The Toy is wound up with an attached key. When the 4 balls are placed in the holes on the top of the PoolTable they run down towards the Player side and then funneled towards a cup that lifts the ball up to the table height. When the ball reaches the table height then the pool stick in the Pool Player’s hand springs forward and hits the ball which travels to the other side of the Pool Table and hopefully falls into one of the 5 holes under which each is stamped “10”, “20”, “30” “40” and“50” for scoring the plays based on difficulty of making the shot. Notice in the second and third pictures that the fly wheel is blurred as it is spinning pretty fast after the key is used to wind up the mechanism.
As you can observe on the picture of the bottom of the Pool Table is the clockwork mechanism so named because of the gears used in the winding mechanism. You can also observe in the picture of the bottom, the funnel channel and the spring for the pool stick.
A description of this Gunthermann Pool Table Tin Toy I found on the internet is:
This tin toy features a billiard player that after winding will move his arm and pool stick into a shooting position while the mechanism underneath will feed a small ball upwards into the hole directly ahead of him. With a quick movement he will strike the ball and shoot it across the table into marked holes with value assigned to each hole. When the ball falls thru the hole it proceeds down the chute into a scoop that raises the ball again into a shooting position. The clockwork mechanism operates perfectly. The lithographic paint on the player is detailed right down to his striped pants and facial features.”
