Born Jack William Nicklaus in Columbus, Ohio on January 21, 1940 to drug store owner Louis Nicklaus. Played most sports in school--baseball, track, golf, more. First played golf at age 10. Narrowed focus to golf in high school because he felt "it was the only sport at which I could become a complete player by myself." Began classes at Scioto Country Club with head pro Jack Grout in 1950. Dominated Columbus junior golf in 1953--won Ohio State Junior Championship for boys 13-15 and Columbus Junior Play Championship. Gained national recognition in 1956-57 by capturing two titles, including defeating Ohio's top pro and amateur in the 1956 Ohio Open. Graduated Upper Arlington High School in 1957. Won the U.S. Sponsored Links Jaycees Junior Championship in 1957, landing a spot in the U.S. Open. Enrolled at OSU in 1957. Married Barbara July 23, 1960--they had met his first week at OSU. First played internationally in Europe in 1961. Nicklaus announced his intent to turn professional in November 1961. His Life and Career in the next few years, would go onto develop: one of the Greatest Players of All Time and DaD Too.
