Welcome toAntiques & Moore!
This listing if for a nice Mid-Century Orrefors Sweden Crystal FISHGRAAL vase, signed Edward Hald.
This type vase was designed by Edward Hald in 1945 and has continued to be produced in limited quantities. The design of fish swimming in seaweed is almost always created in vivid green color using the Graal technique using thick-walled, clear crystal. Although the theme is the same, no two pieces will be identical.
The effect of this technique creates an illusion of a larger under water scene enlarging the fish and water plants at different depths. The Graal technique became a huge commercial success for the Orrefors company and was a large factor in advancing the Swedish Art Glass movement.
The base is properly marked with etched signature "Orrefors, Graal, No 749L, Edward Hald". Vase is pictured on page 103 of the book "Fifties Glass" by Leslie Pina with a value of 00.00-00.00.
Measures 4 1/2" high with a 4 1/2" overall width and 1" top opening. Weighs 5.5 pounds.
This unusual vase is in excellent Estate condition with no chips, cracks or repairs.
